Ivan was rescued on Cape San Blas, FL, near St. Joe Peninsula State Park, shortly after Hurricane Ivan in 2004.
There were five rough-toothed dolphins (Steno bredanensis
who were beached at that time. All five made it safely to Gulf World, however only 3 survived. Ivan was only about 9 months old at the time and was deemed non-releasable by the National Marine Fisheries Service (NOAA) due to mother dependency. He now calls Gulf World Marine Park his permanent home.
